PET receives and has GRATITUDE

PET MO-Columbia update 7-14-16

I’ve opened thousands of donation letters, and have so often been impressed by notes from those who specifically mention that they give out of gratitude. Sometimes it is out of gratitude for the friendship of an individual, a gift honoring them. Sometimes it is out of gratitude for a special and unexpected good fortune. Sometimes it is out of gratitude for living in a country with such abundance of wealth and services. Here are a few examples:

*** PET received a check for $1,640.00, and a note saying, “I just bought a new car and realized how fortunate I was to be able to do that. Out of gratitude for that I am sending a check to help those less fortunate.” I’ve asked some folks, when I told that story, “How much did her new car cost?” Some got it correct, $16,400. She gave a tithe.

*** A generous check for PET came in last week. When I thanked the couple personally they said, “We just sold our house (they were downsizing) and wanted to share.”

*** Each year a generous check comes from a friend I met several years ago when I did my therapy after heart surgery. He has for years been confined to a wheelchair, and wants to help those less fortunate to receive the kind of mobility he has.
