PET MO-Columbia update 6/30/16

PETs built since 1-1-16 #816

Thought for the week: There are two widely differing philosophies about how one should relate to those persons, groups and nations who are different in race, sex, culture, income, age, and religion. The disagreements on this issue have caused our wars and much of our social unrest. England is today dealing with the fallout of differing opinions.

Those on one side of the issue could be called the “wall builders and sign makers.” They use hate and suspicion as their weapon, and build walls and print signs to emphasize and enforce the separation. They use legislation to make it legal.

Two thousand years ago another concept was put forth as to how to deal with those who are different. A man named Jesus said we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. He told the story of the good Samaritan. He ate and drank with those who were different. On the cross of His crucifixion He forgave those who put him there.

We at PET follow His concept of how to deal with those who are different. Those overseas who distribute your PETs base their decisions only on need and ability to crank a PET or receive a Pull. We receive donations of dollars, supplies, and labor from all who want to help the less fortunate. We build bridges and not walls.

I like this little poem:

“Rascal, Scoundrel, Flout;
He drew a circle that shut me out;
But love and I had the wit to win;
We drew a circle that took him in.”
