Stones are being rolled away, like the wheels on a PET

PET MO-Columbia update 3-28-16
PETs built since 1-1-16 #378

PET is reflective of the Easter story. The politics of government and religion had done their worst. The evils of suffering, shame and death had done that which they do. Hope was in a tomb with a heavy stone closing it. Darkness. Fear.

Then came Easter morning. The stone was rolled away. Hope and new life had escaped and emerged. The darkness of a long night had turned into the brilliant light of a new day.

HondurasMan in Bed byK compressed Mar2007The evils of war, disease, poverty, disgrace, ignorance, greed, disenfranchisement, and marginalization have kept millions of God’s
people locked in the tomb of hopelessness. They crawl upon the ground or lie upon the prison of their bed, their hands and eyes reaching out to us, begging to be released from their tomb of shame. (See attached
example from Honduras.)

HondurasMan on PET SmithMar2007For a few of them, 57,000 or so, the darkness of their eternal Friday has been turned into the bright light of a new day. The combined powers of love, generosity, sharing, and caring have cooperated with
enough energy to roll away that heavy stone.

PET folks are Easter people, refusing to give in to the forces that degrade and degrace human life. We believe the One who said that a first priority is to look after His “least of these.” In doing so we join our hearts and hands with those whose “hearts are like ours” (John Wesley) who built houses for the poor, hospitals for the ill, and schools for the uneducated. We are a part of that gracious team that fights racism, sexism, the many phobias, unjust laws and unjust distribution of wealth.

One by one those stones are being rolled away, like the wheels on a PET. Day by day, year by year, the world given us by a gracious and generous Creator is becoming better and better. “The Arc of life bends very slowly, but it always bends toward justice.”

“The entrance fee into the Kingdom of Heaven is nothing. The annual
subscription fee is everything.” – Henry Drummond
