Goal to date: 920. Actual 934!
*** This quote is on the wall of our PET office:
“Do all the good you can,
by all the means you can,
in all the ways you can,
in all the places you can,
at all the times you can,
to all the people you can,
As long as you ever can.” – John Wesley
That exemplifies what we here at 1908 Heriford Rd do, day after day. Our
major work is to build and ship 2012 PETs around the world, and to the most
isolated places. Right now we are building for a shipment to Swaziland.
Persons who live at the very bottom of the world’s pile of human misery find
a new life through the PETs we send them into 95 countries. (John Wesley
would be proud.)
***But another exciting and relevant work goes on in this building. “The
Container Project”, operated by several local churches, has its home here.
We gather useful, and usually used, items to send to missions around the
world–medical equipment, bicycles, clothing, shoes, bedding (received from
a hospital), sewing machines, fabric & notions/tools, toys (simple/sturdy),
sports equipment, hand tools, school supplies, baby layettes, walkers,
crutches, canes, solar lights, Frisbees, etc.
We have just received word that a 40′ container we sent to Rainbow
Network in Nicaragua has cleared customs and is being unloaded. They are
extremely grateful, and we will receive a full evaluation later. In the
meantime the Container Project sent nine big pallets of such items to
Joplin, MO, to be sent with items they had for Nicaragua. We cooperate with
We are now gathering materials for another shipment! If you have any of
the above mentioned items, in good & clean condition (WE DO NOT TREAT THE
POOR POORLY), GET THEM TO US HERE AT PET.
Dollars are needed for shipping the container. If you send a check, mark it
for that purpose payable to The Container Project.
*** Bob and Joan Franklin from IA stopped in recently on their way to a
graduation to leave 100 child sized cranks that they make. They do high
quality work for us, some for another Affiliate shop, and always add a
cheerful note to our day.
***Shop volunteers: Our waiting list has dwindled to zero. We have had the
luxury for years of having folks on a waiting list to work in the shop.
Roger has added more regulars to the shop doing various tasks along with
other changes and has exhausted the list. If you or someone you know has
been interested in working in the shop, we would appreciate your letting us
know. If you know of someone that might be interested, bring them by for a
tour. Roger can note their (or your) contact info and tasks you might be
interested in. We’d appreciate your help. It has always been handy to have
names of interested persons when they were needed.
