PET MO-Columbia UPDATE: 8/30/10

Much about an individual’s or a nation’s character is revealed by the way
they spend their money. This is a part of  the way we in the USA spent our
money in 2008.

** $705 billion for entertainment and recreation.
**    65 billion on jewelry.
**    58 billion on state lottery tickets.
**    39 billion total US Govt. foreign assistance budget.
**    31 billion on household pets.
**    13 billion on cosmetic surgery.
**      5 billion total given for overseas ministries provided by over 700
Protestant mission agencies, including denominational, inter-denominational and
individual gifts. (That would include PET.)

*** Please let this be a “blanket thank you” to all who stop by PET Place
and deliver PET parts, clothing, shoes, sewing machines, toys, fabric, and
other such items. When I know who delivered it and their address I write a
thank you letter–but often items are just left and I cannot. All items
are very much appreciated, and our volunteers will get them to those for
whom they will be most useful.

If you need an acknowledgement please leave your name and address with the
items.

*** Morgan Matsiga and his “Universal Appeals Drum Band” will play at the
September 18 Rock and Roll for PET. Some who will walk are already sending
in the checks from their sponsors. Come and join us at Stephans Lake Park,
from 8 to 12, Saturday, Sept. 18.

*** From January 1, 2010, to August 30, 2010, PETMO-Columbia shipped a
total of 1024 PETs. On an annual basis that would be 1536.

*** If any of you readers work for/with a company that has a color copier
it would be great if you could, from time to time, make some color copies
for PET MO-Columbia, gratis. We like to send color photos to our donors,
but the cost adds up.

*** The Orphan Grain Train Mission is one of our wonderful distributors.
This thank you note was sent on to us by OGT:

“Teresa is a senior woman who has only one leg. She stayed at her home
all the time because she could not move by herself. Our brothers in Christ
from OGT sent to Nicaragua many PETs for people with this kind of problem.
I want to tell you that this support did possible that Teresa could not
participate in our activities and now worships the Lord in our local
Lutheran congregation in her community. She is now moving happily by
herself and say thank you Lutheran brothers and sisters in Christ for the
support to LHM Nicaragua because they help us, said Teresa.”

In school, you’re given a lesson and then given a test.
In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.”  Tom Bodett
