PET MO-Columbia update 8/23/10

Promptly at 8:00 as scheduled, Mid-City Lbr. delivered a load of lumber, 256 pieces of good quality yellow-pine, 10′x6″x3/4″, kiln dried after treatment. Our volunteers are unloading as I write.

At 9:00 (hopefully on time) a 53′ truck will back up to our dock and we will load on 159 boxed PETs, 28 sewing machines, 24 boxes of fabric, 10 shoe-shine kits, 6 “mini-marts,” and 20 boxes of medical supplies. They will go to The Orphan Grain Train Mission in Norfolk, NE, then to the many front line overseas mission groups they service. (He was on time, and is now on the road.)

From Haiti: “The PETs have been a true blessing to us as I see children and adults on them every day. Several have commented on the craftsmanship of the PETs. I am always delighted to tell them about you guys and the love and attention that goes into every one.”

To those of you coming to the WALK AND ROLL FOR PET, Sept. 18, 8 to 12, at Stephens Lake Park:

write or call us for your Walkers Packet, with instructions, sponsors sheets, DVD and a map of the park, showing you where the event will be held. I walked the park Saturday and it is a lovely spot.

A partial report from the St. John Church in Alaska that sent a work team to Cameroon- May 21/’10:

With support from PET International we worked with our Cameroon friends to assemble, paint and distribute 32 PETs, providing mobility to people with disabilities (not many dry eyes on that day!)

The Lion’s Club sponsored the distribution of over 200 eyeglasses and 12 canes for the blind. 1,500 lbs. of medical supplies were delivered in our bags, along with 100 mosquito nets and thousands of toothbrushes. Soccer balls and jerseys made treasured gifts for teams. Dr. Marilyn Sanford and Laurence Evina conducted a trauma response training for 25 local doctors and nurses. A world map mural was painted on a wall in the wellness center. Sewing machines are now providing a trade for young apprentices….Yet for all we gave, we were given much more.”

NOTE: This is a typical report from a well planned and managed work team trip. This is the way to build a lasting world peace.
